Beyond academic excellence, choosing the perfect international school for your child will depend on several other factors. Is the school close enough to your place of residence? Do you want a particular school accreditation or membership for assurance of quality? Can the school cater to your child’s specific needs? But perhaps the most important question to start your search is, what is your preferred educational system and curriculum?
To help you make your decision, here are international educational systems that are available in the country.
Australian. If you are looking for a Malaysian international school with an Australian curriculum, look no further. Australian International School Malaysia (AISM) is located in the Mines Resort City in Seri Kembangan, Selangor. It is the only school in Malaysia that follows an Australian curriculum — the New South Wales Board of Studies curriculum — at all levels.
British. One of the best Malaysian international schools with British curriculum is Garden International School (GIS). It is constantly ranked as one of the top international schools in Asia and has strong track record of getting students into the world’s best universities. The curriculum is based on the British National Curriculum of England with modifications to meet the needs of international students. The main campus is located in Mont Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. GIS is accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS).
Canadian. Sunway International School uses the Canadian curriculum. It has a campus in Petaling Jaya and will be opening the Sunway Iskandar Campus in Johor in 2017.
Japanese. Japanese School of Kuala Lumpur uses the Japanese curriculum. It is located in Subang, Selangor’s Saujana Golf and Country Club.
French. Lycée Français de Kuala Lumpur, also known as the French School of Kuala Lumpur is a non-profit association offering a full French curriculum using French as the main medium of instruction. It is located in Taman Segambut Sppk.
German. Deutsche Schule Kuala Lumpur (DSKL) Curriculum is open for both German expatriates and locals. Lessons are taught in German. DSKL is recognised by the Conference of the Ministers of Culture, Germany and certified as “Excellent German School Abroad” in 2009. The school is located in Petaling Jaya.
Go ahead and check out the schools you have shortlisted and arrange for a tour of the grounds, preferably with your child in tow. It might surprise you that your child may have a good sense of assessing what is the best school for him or her.
